Fragel Fridays

On Fridays throughout the Fall and Spring, fragels are passed out on The Grove as a little treat to end the week! What are fragels you may ask? An Ann Arbor staple…they are bagels deep fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar. Look out for Fragel Friday in Spring 2024!

Cooking Demo/Class

A small group of engineering students watched and learned how to make a tasty quinoa bowl with roasted chickpeas, squash, beets, broccoli, and radishes AND a quick but delicious dessert, peach cobbler. Not only did they go home with recipes, but their dinner was provided for! Look for cooking demos or classes this Winter and Spring!

Senior Sendoff

Engineering undergraduate students were invited to celebrate their accomplishments with free food, fun activities, and a special memento to remember their time at Michigan. If you are graduating this year, be on the lookout for an email invite in the Spring!

De-Stress Fest Carnival

De-Stress Fest occurs twice a year before final exams, once in the Winter and once in the Spring! The one in the Spring is typically held on The Grove and includes fun activities such as a rock climbing wall, zip line, wax hands, and paracord bracelet making. The one in the Winter is typically held in Duderstadt and includes cookie decorating, massage chairs, arcade games and wax hands. Both events also have fun snacks and drinks as well as de-stressing swag items. Lookout for the first De-Stress Fest in April!

Trevor Noah – Fireside Chat

Engineering students got a unique and private opportunity to meet with the author, comedian and host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, to discuss his memoir, Born A Crime.  Featured as the Common Read selection for first-year engineering students, Born A Crime teaches about resilience and equity, which aligns with the College’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Taste of Fall

An annual tradition held on the Grove where students get to experience the fall flavors of Michigan including caramel apples, cider and donuts from one of our popular local orchards.

Movie Nights

Students enjoy movies under the lights and stars at the Grove.  Featuring food trucks and popcorn.  Bring a chair, blanket and friend for these special evenings offered in September and October (weather permitting).

Maize & Blizzard

Gerstacker Grove transforms into a Michigan winter wonderland. Students take over north campus by enjoying fun outdoor activities such as ice skating on a synthetic ice rink, riding a mechanical snowboard, and enjoying hot cocoa and musical performances.

Embark 2023

To kickoff the 2023 academic year, we welcomed all engineering students to attend Embark 2023! We had many fun activities – climbing wall, lightspeed basketball, cornhole, face painting, wrapping the block M and much more! We also welcomed departments/programs the opportunity to table activities so they could speak with our students about opportunities or events throughout the academic year. Students also received a fun swag item and enjoyed delicious ice cream sandwiches in addition to some savory snacks. Look out for Embark 2024 during the first week of classes next year!

Michigan Engineering (CoE) Exploration Event

Families were able to meet with units in the College that support our students, learned about new engagement opportunities, and toured North Campus. We also offered fall treats and a fun swag item as families explored Michigan Engineering!

Month of Gratitude

The College celebrates November by saying thank you and giving back to our community.  Students share what they are thankful for and come together by participating in fun and creative ways that help support local charities  In 2022, students painted small canvas’ that were donated to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. This year, students and staff worked on tie blankets that were donated to local families and pets in need.

Scavenger Hunt

16 student orgs competed in a race against the clock excursion across north campus for a shot at winning prize money! Teams of 3-6 members solved clues and riddles, explored various buildings, discovered landmarks and interacted with 8 engineering departments/programs.  This activity was a cross between a Scavenger Hunt and the Amazing Race using QR codes and Qualtrics.  Anyone interested in learning more about how these two applications transformed the student experience into an exciting game should contact Kaitlin Keahl!

Our winners featured below and in order:  1st Place $800 – Baja Racing Team, 2nd Place $600 – UM Electric Boat, 3rd Place $400 (Tie) – SWE & EGL
